For some people, Labor Day is a day of rest and relaxation. For others it marks the end of Summer and the start of a new school year. And for most, Labor Day is celebrated with backyard barbeques and partes. But for me and many other people in the hospitality / service industry, it is just another day at work. I will celebrate the day by ensuring I have happy guests and employees, or at least that is the plan.
Rest assured, I will eventually get my “Labor Day,” later in the week. However, there are certainly times that I wish I could have my holiday on the actual holiday. It’s not that I am looking for your sympathy, this is the career I have chosen and like any job it has its positives and negatives. Instead, I would just like to bring a greater awareness and appreciation to all employees who work on Labor Day and any other holiday.
So if you happen to be lucky enough to have today off, make sure you give an extra smile or thank you to any worker you encounter while you are enjoying your day of festivities. If you are like me and will be working today, my hat is off to you!
Happy Labor Day!
