Tough Mudder and the Wounded Warrior Project

on October 12, 2011

In case you haven’t already heard, I signed up for the Michigan / Ohio Tough Mudder in April of 2012!!! Can you believe it? I mean just take a look at the course! (Click here for course map.)

This is certainly the toughest race I have ever signed up for! But after facing some of my fears in the Warrior Dash this past Summer and reading the Tough Mudder NorCal – Epic Recap by Kirsten over at Running in a Girls’ World, I decided to take the plunge! You only live once, right? And in all honesty, I really want an orange headband!

I have no idea who these people are, but they each have the coveted orange headband!

In addition to competing in the Tough Mudder, (just a mere 12 miles and 27 obstacles) I will also be raising money for the Wounded Warrior Project. The mission of the Wounded Warrior Project is “to honor and empower wounded warriors” through programs that “nurture the mind and body, and encourage empowerment and engagement.” Fundraising for the Wounded Warrior Project is my way of thanking service men and women for keeping me free, keeping me safe and keeping me running.

Thanks to this post by David at Voices In My Head, I have came up with a fabulous fundraising idea! If you took a moment to read David’s post you are probably thinking that I am going to compete in the Tough Mudder wearing a skirt, but you would be wrong. I did consider the skirt idea, however I realized it would probably come off at the first obstacle. What I am going to do is steal his idea about personalizing his race gear. In his case it was a pink tutu, however I am going to opt for a tech shirt with the Wounded Warrior Project logo on the front. On the back of the shirt will be names of service men and women that I will be racing in honor of. (I am in the process of having the shirt created and will post it as soon as an image is available.)  All I need you to do is to donate at least $5 to the Wounded Warrior Project. For every $5 you donate, you can send me the name and rank of a service man or woman you would like me to race in honor of or in remembrance of.

This is what I am planning to have on the front of my race shirt.

So what are you waiting for? Click here to donate to my fundraiser for the Wounded Warrior Project. You can also click on the Wounded Warrior Project image on my blog’s home page any time to access my fundraising page as well.

Thank you in advance for your support of this great cause!
