This post was made possible by the Verizon Health and Fitness Voices program. As a participant of the program I have been provided with a wireless device and six months of service in exchange for my honest opinions about the product. I was also invited to Chicago to kick off the program which included a hotel stay, travel expenses and an entry into the Shamrock Shuffle 8k. Click here for more info on the program.
You probably already know that I run topless. But here’s a question you might not know the answer to…..Do I run naked?
Now I KNOW that some of you have your minds in the gutter and no, I wasn’t referring to THAT kind of naked. Although, there are some races where clothing is optional, like this one. The kind of naked that I am referring to is running sans gadgets. No iPod, no watch, no phone etc.
And I am here to tell you that I don’t run naked. In fact, I am not even remotely interested in running naked. I love my gadgets and I think they enhance my run. I have run naked before and I didn’t like it.
Let’s take a look at the gadgets I use during my run and why I like each of them so much!
1. Garmin Watch – This is by far the best running purchase I have ever made! It was an investment, no doubt, but it makes my runs way easier. I don’t need to plan my route before I head out for a run to ensure I achieve a certain distance. With my Garmin I can make up my route on the spot and still hit my target mileage. It also helps keep my pace in check as I am not one of those runners who can run by feel.
2. iPod – I love having my own personalized soundtrack for my runs. Music helps pass the time, especially during long runs and the right song can give me a boost when I need it most. I know some people will say it is not safe to run with music on as it may keep you from being aware of your surroundings. My music is not played loud enough that I can not hear what is going on around me and if I am ever in doubt I just run with one earbud in.
3. My DROID RAZR HD – I typically only take my phone on long runs or big races. I like the security of having my phone with me so if something happens I can call a friend and it also helps me to reconnect with people after a race because the finish line at some events can be quite crazy!
So what about you, Do you run naked? Why or why not?
