I enjoyed reading all the answers from the people I featured on Mud Runner Monday, so I thought I would take a turn at answering my own questions!
1. Tell us a little bit about yourself.
If you have been reading my blog for a little while there probably isn’t much I can tell you about me that you don’t already know. For those that want to read a synopsis about me, click HERE.
2. What Mud runs have you done?
My first mud run was a Warrior Dash and I have been hooked ever since. In total I have done 2 Warrior Dash races, 3 Tough Mudders, a local mud run called the Dirty Dog Dash and 1 Down and Dirty Mud Run. Click HERE for a full list of the races I have done and for my recaps for each race!
3. What one was your favorite and why?
This is a hard question to answer because I have liked each of my mud runs for different reasons. But I guess I would have to say my first Warrior Dash was my favorite because it got me hooked on mud runs and OCR’s and without it, I might not be where I am today!
4. What one was your least favorite and why?
I would say the Dirty Dog Dash. I had a lot of fun doing it but compared to the caliber of the other mud runs I have done, it certainly wasn’t at the same level.
5. What is it about mud runs that appeals to you?
Everything! The challenge, the mud, the obstacles, the camaraderie, the feeling of accomplishment after crossing the finish line. I like traditional races too, but I LOVE the extra perks that come along with mud runs.
6. How do you train for mud runs?
It depends what mud run I am training for. The shorter distance mud runs don’t typically require any training beyond my normal workout schedule. For the Tough Mudders, I followed a half marathon training plan to make sure I could cover the distance and I focused on strength training on my cross training days.
7. Do you have a special diet?
Not really. I do try to eat healthy. Sometimes I succeed and sometimes I don’t. I don’t believe in deprivation or that certain foods are off limits, so for that reason I try to enjoy the foods I like (chocolate and ice cream most importantly) in moderation. I just recently started Shakeology to see if it makes a difference in my training or how I feel in general. It is too early to vouch for that yet.
8. What is the craziest thing you have seen at a mud run?
I am always a fan of the crazy costumes that people wear at mud runs! People let their imaginations run wild and I appreciate the laugh.
9. What other mud runs do you have planned for this year?
This coming weekend I will be going back to where it all began! The Warrior Dash! And in September I will be testing out the Iron Warrior Dash. Now that I think about it, I am kind of sad that I only have two more scheduled this year.
10. Any advice for someone who is thinking about running their first mud run?
Don’t think about it, just take the plunge, sign up and show up. The more you think about it the more you will talk yourself out of it. I really believe anyone can do a mud run and that everyone should try a mud run at least once!
