Yesterday was B’s first day of Kindergarten!
Did you all gasp after reading that?! Because I sure did after typing it. I find it very hard to believe that we have already reached this milestone.
The morning of the big day started a little rocky as B didn’t want to get up, he didn’t want to eat breakfast, he didn’t want to get dressed and most importantly he didn’t want to go to Kindergarten! Eeek!
I finally was able to coerce him to go through the motions of getting ready and I attempted to squash any fears that he had about the day ahead. I also bribed him with an after school brownie if he didn’t cry and was good for his teacher. (Hey it worked, so don’t judge.)
Whether it was my reassuring words or the promise of a brownie (I’m guessing brownie), his mood about Kindergarten lifted just in time for me to get some cute first day of school pics!
In case you are wondering about the sign he is holding, I found it here.
Drop off went surprisingly well…..for both of us! B was a little apprehensive about being somewhere he had never been before (he is enrolled in a latchkey program held at the school for before and after care) and wondered how he would get to his classroom etc. Hell, I had those same concerns as well. But he said hello to some new faces, said good-bye to me and neither of us cried. It was a success.
When I picked up B from latchkey I asked him how school was and he said”It was AWESOME!” I was so relieved and happy to hear that!
How did the first day back to school go for you and your kids?
