Here I am again, with yet another race recap that I have been behind in doing. And yes, again, the bf did his long ago. Click here to read his.
Chris and I added the Mustache Dache to our race calendar at the last-minute. It was hard to say no to it, I mean, there were mustaches involved after all. Interestingly the day of the Mustache Dache also turned out to be moving into the new house day. Yikes, right? With that in mind I approached the Mustache Dache as a fun take my time and enjoy the scenery kind of run.
Wearing a mustache either real of fake was mandatory for the race and Chris and I were happy to partake!
Did you happen to notice the awesome mustache socks that I had on? Here’s a close up!
The Mustache Dache started at Atwater Brewery which was pretty cool. I am not a beer drinker but I can appreciate why people are. As usual, Chris and I picked up our packet the morning of the race. I found packet pick up to be a tad disorganized as it was kind of a free for all instead of lining up in a specific line based upon your race number. It wasn’t awful though, just something that they may consider tweaking for next year.
A very unfortunate part of the race is that the start line was right next to a dumpster and the dumpster had a foul odor. It was a windy day as well so that smell was everywhere. Because of that Chris and I stayed to the back of the starting line area and didn’t really hear the national anthem or even realize that the race had started until we started moving.
By far the best part of the race was the course. It had breath taking views of Detroit. Bet you have never heard someone say that Detroit has breath taking views huh? But I promise you it does. This course will show you a whole other side of Detroit, the side the news channels will never show you. Luckily, Detroit Runner takes pictures while he runs races (crazy, right?) so you can click here to see the awesome views that I am talking about.
I ended up crossing the finish line (which was also the start line, so again it was stinky) in 34:26 and Chris was shortly behind me. We both claimed out mustache medals and our mustache shaped chocolate. We also stopped in for some refueling and grabbed some water and pretzels. We didn’t stick around long though, as we needed to head out to get our moving truck and start that part of our day.
Overall I really enjoyed this race! RUN Detroit (the Detroit running store who put on the race) did a good job of giving runners what we love. A great course, nice shirt, fun theme and an awesome finishers medal! The only parts that I would recommend they change is a more organized packet pick up and a less stinky start and finish line. Other than that, I would say that it is a must do race!
