How is your 2014 race schedule coming along? Mine is starting to come together. Want to take a look at it? Of course, you do!
I try to do about one race a month, so for now here is my tentative plan.
1/18 – Auto Show Shuffle 5k
This one promises to be a scenic and cold race as it runs along Detroit’s riverfront. Included in the $30 registration is a tech tee and a finishers medal. This will be my first time doing this race!
I don’t have a race lined up for February yet but I did see that the Rock CF people have been talking about holding a Groundhog’s Day race so that might be a possibility as I am a big fan of the Rock CF race in March.
3/16 – Kona St. Patrick’s Day Run
One of my race goals for 2014 is to do the Kona Grand Slam which entails me running four of their races so not only do I get a medal at each race but I also get the bonus Grand Slam medal. This is the first of the four that I will be doing!
3/30 – Rock CF 5k
Even though I already have a race scheduled this month, I can’t miss out on one of my favorite events. I have been doing Rock CF since it started. They have a great course, nice tech shirt, awesome after race food and a sweet medal. This race is really a must do!
4/12 – Martian Race
Here I am violating my one race a month rule again. The Spartan race that you are going to read about next is a must do but I also really want to do this race because the medal is sweet and it looks fun. We shall see….
4/26 – Indiana Spartan Sprint
Another goal for 2014 is to complete the Spartan Trifecta! So I just need to complete a Spartan of each distance and then I get a bonus Trifecta medal. It is rumored that Spartan will finally be coming to Ohio and Michigan so *ideally* I would run the other distances there. Fingers crossed!
5/18 – Back to the Beach
Another great local race that I haven’t yet done. I am not sure what distance I am going to do yet but this will definitely be my race for May!
6/7 – Kona Run
This is the race that I volunteered at last year and I was jealous that Chris was running it, so I will be running it in 2014. Plus it is the second race for the Kona Grand Slam!
7/26 – Warrior Dash
My love of mud runs started at this race so I am certain I will probably always return. Plus the bf snagged a great Cyber Monday deal so the registration was only $35!
8/24 – Down and Dirty Obstacle Race
I did this race in 2012 and really enjoyed it so I wanted to make sure I put it into my schedule for 2014.
This year was the inaugural race of The Hungerford Games and although I didn’t run it I had race envy for those that did, so naturally it is on the calendar for 2014. The finishers medal is very unique it is a branded wooden medal and it is HUGE.
10/26 – Wicked Halloween Run
This will be race number 3 for the Kona Grand Slam!
11/16 – Kona Chocolate Run
I did this race this year and although it wasn’t perfect I think that changes will be made to ensure that next year’s is better. Plus this is the last race for the Kona Grand Slam!
This sounds like a fun local run to do. Everyone wears jingle bells on their shoes and the first 1000 pre-registrants get a souvenir Christmas ornament. However, this race may conflict with the A Christmas Story run if we decide that we want to do that one in 2014 too.
So there it is! My tentative 2014 race schedule. It appears that I will certainly be doing more than one race a month and I still have two more Spartan races to add in once they announce the dates for the Michigan and Ohio races.
After looking at my schedule two things come to mind. 1) It is going to be a fun year! 2) I may need a sponsor or a second job to support my race habit.
