I promised you that I would recap my Disney World vacation soon and I will, rest assured! First though, I thought I would start off by talking about how we planned for the trip because planning is such a big part of any vacation. And you know what they say, anticipation is half the fun!
If memory serves me correctly I think we started booking the trip back in January. It was an impromptu, let’s go on a vacation somewhere text conversation instigated by the bf and naturally I jumped on board very easily. I love traveling and new adventures so I am usually pretty easy to convince to go somewhere.
Since it was just the bf and I going we knew that we would be limited to making it just a weekend trip since we would need to go when B would be at his Dad’s house. We then picked the weekend based on when airfare was the cheapest. As much as I like to travel, I also like to make sure I am getting the most with my money!
From there we looked into hotel options. Since I work in the hotel industry I have access to discounts that the general public does not. However, we ended up deciding to stay at a Disney Value Resort. It was a better deal than my discount at a hotel off site once we factored in car rental and the headache of driving back and forth each day.
We ended up selecting Pop Century because we had read that it is the only Disney Value Resort with its own shuttle to and from the parks. Meaning we wouldn’t have to stop off at other hotels along the way. Some other perks of Pop Century (and all other Disney hotels) is that there is a complimentary shuttle to and from the airport as well as luggage handling so when we landed we didn’t have to deal with retrieving our checked bag. Instead, we went straight to the shuttle and when we got back to our room at the end of the day our suitcase was waiting for us!
After booking our hotel, we booked our park passes and customized our Magic Bands. Magic Bands are brand new to Disney and are currently just used by guests of Disney Hotels. What is great about the Magic Bands is that they hold the key to anything and everything you want to do in Disney. We literally wore them all weekend as it was how we got on the shuttle, opened the door to our hotel room, got access to the parks, used our Fast Pass selections, charged items to our rooms etc! They were great and I loved that we got to pick what color we wanted and that our names were on the inside of them!
After booking our park passes and getting our magic bands we did LOTS of research. We read blogs and other online articles about tips and general Disney info. We talked to people who have gone. We basically consumed every piece of Disney info we could get our hands on so that we could make the best use of our time.
This information helped us decide what parks to go to on what days, what rides / attractions to use our Fast Passes on, where and what to eat, etc. An example of this can be found over on the bf’s blog where he talks about the Dole Whips that everyone had raved about. Click here to read his post!
As I post my recaps of the trip I will try to share with you all the tricks and tips that we found useful or even ones that we learned on our own! In the meantime, there is one site that you should definitely visit before booking your trip to Disney and it is Undercover Tourist. On the site there is a calendar which will show you how busy the parks will be when you are there. This is something that we didn’t consider but wish that we did because two of our three days there were VERY VERY busy.
Make sure you come back here tomorrow to read my recap of Day #1 of our Disney World Trip!
