I received a copy of Obstacle Race Training thanks to FitFluential and Margaret Schlachter in exchange for an honest review on my blog. All opinions are my own.
If you know me at all, you know that I LOVE Obstacle Races and Mud Runs so you can imagine how excited I was to have the opportunity to read and review the book Obstacle Race Training by Margaret Schlachter.
Before I get into the book let me give you a little bit of background on Margaret so that you can understand why she is the perfect person to write an OCR book. Margaret is an elite OCR and Mud Run racer and has completed close to 50 OCR and Mud Runs across the US and internationally. And although Margaret is an elite racer you should never consider her an elitist as she seems very down to earth and has had to work her way up to her current elite status. She is also the founder of Dirt in Your Skirt which is a great site that you should check out if you haven’t already!
Now on to the book.
I think that this book is a must have for OCR and Mud Run newbies although I also believe veterans will get something out of it as well. The book covers everything and anything that you would want to know about OCR and Mud Runs. From explaining the difference between the two, helping you pick the right race, training plans and tips, a race day guide and how to move forward after your first race.
My favorite features of the book are the training plan, tips for conquering some of the most common obstacles and instructions on how to build some of the obstacles for your backyard. There is also a recipe for Chocolate Protein Cake that I can’t wait to try out!
