Most people either love ’em or hate ’em.
I’m sure you probably realize that I LOVE them. I am very passionate about running and many of the races that I have done and I feel there is no better way to express those passions than by displaying them on my car.
Okay, so maybe I exaggerated a little, perhaps there are better ways to express my passions. And I do express my passions in many different ways outside of running stickers: through this blog, on my social media channels, in my everyday conversations etc. But despite all of those ways, nothing has felt better than accomplishing a certain distance or race and celebrating that accomplishment with a sticker for my car!
What stickers do I have on my car?
I was so excited to put a 13.1 sticker on my car after I ran my first half marathon. It is the longest distance I have ever ran and I am proud of that accomplishment. I have no doubt that some day, I will be putting a 26.2 sticker on my car too!
Next up, is my Idiots Running Club sticker! I think it is important for my Idiocy to be displayed for all the world to see.
I was super proud of myself for finishing my first Tough Mudder so naturally I needed one of these for my car as well.
I am also very proud to call myself a Spartan! If all goes according to plan, I will be adding two additional Spartan stickers to my car later this year. Aroo!
I love to see other cars with running stickers as well! Sometimes I will look at the driver and try to size him / her up, I am a tad competitive after all. But mostly the stickers help me to identify “my people” and help provide a sense of community.
Running stickers are also a big help when I am headed to a race. Once I start seeing the stickers on cars, I know I am headed in the right direction. (Btw if you are ever driving behind me to a race, never rely on me to get you there. I have the worst sense of direction even while using my GPS. You have been warned.)
I do realize that some people think that running stickers are just another way to brag about what you have done. And I suppose that is true. But why is bragging a bad thing? Is it because you define bragging as someone who is saying “Hey look at what I did! I am awesome and you are not?” Because when I put my stickers on my car I am actually saying “Hey look at what I did! I am awesome. You could totally do this too!”
