This past Saturday myself, B, the bf, his kids and his Mom all participated in one of the CheeseTown Races in Pinconning. This post is dedicated to B’s experience at the race but to read about the bf’s experience click here.
B was signed up for the Little Meeces race which was the kids fun run. It was a bargain at $6 which included a race shirt and a medal. The only downside to the Little Meeces race was that it started after the 2 mile run/ walk and 5 mile run ended. This meant a lot of waiting around which isn’t a big deal as an adult but it certainly tested the patience of my 6 year old. I tried to keep him occupied by encouraging him to cheer on the runners that were coming in and he certainly enjoyed getting to see the bf, his kids and the bf’s Mom cross the finish line!
The Little Meeces race was for kids 8 and under and the start line for the race depended upon the kids age. B’s start line was probably about 400 meters or so from the finish line so obviously it wasn’t too far away. Parents were allowed to run with the kids for free if they wanted so I left that decision up to B. I wasn’t surprised that he asked me to run it with him but I was certainly proud to accompany him every step of his first race!
B’s race started after the younger kids all crossed the finish line. Ronald McDonald and the CheeseTown Mouse counted down to get the race started. B still does not like people in costumes, so he was slightly scared of them. lol Once the kids were given the green light to go he took off as fast as his little legs could carry him. I suspected that he may tire and walk but he never did. He ran the entire race with the cheesiest smile on his face. Our goal was to beat the mouse who ran with B’s group and beat the mouse we did!
When we crossed the finish line B said to me, “We won Mom, we beat the mouse.” And without missing a beat, I told him that we did in fact win. I am so proud of him!
Once across the finish line B got his first ever race medal!
He also collected some food to refuel. I have to give CheeseTown props for the wide variety of post race food available. They had all sorts of beverages, fruits, ice cream, cookies, pizza and probably a lot more that I am not thinking about. There was definitely something for everyone.
Without a doubt this was one of my favorite races and I wasn’t even an official participant. B and I both had a cheesetastic time!
Have you ever ran a race with your kid(s)? How was it?
