I had the most incredible weekend thanks to Mom Among Chaos. I entered their giveaway for two tickets to Oprah’s The Life You Want Weekend AND I WON! People really do win those blogger giveaways after all people. 😉
I’ll be honest with you though, I think it is going to very hard for me to put into words what the weekend was like and what I got out of it but I am going to give it my best shot.
As I mentioned I had two tickets so I invited my friend Karla whom I graduated High School with. We go way back and have had some similar life experiences that have kept us bonded even after all the time that has passed since High School.
Friday night was the first day of Oprah’s The Life You Want Weekend and I don’t think either of us really knew what to expect. We knew that Oprah was going to be there and that was about it. And honestly that was enough. lol
The event was held at the Palace and just in case you happen to not know what that is, it is where the Detroit Piston’s play. Karla and I got there about an hour or so before the event started and the place was PACKED. We already had our tickets in hand but it took FOREVER to get through the line and up into our seats.
Speaking of seats. Did I mention how awesome they were?
This was our view of the stage! As you can imagine we were quite pleased with our seats.
Out of curiosity I did look up how much the tickets were for this event and found out that tickets started at $99 and went up up and up from there. Our seats were actually $299 a piece! Can you imagine paying that?! Although the price seems high I had to remind myself that it was a two-day event and any concert I have gone to has easily been around $100 a ticket so I guess all things considered, the tickets were priced appropriately. Although if I had to pay for the tickets myself I probably would have went with the $99 ones.
Oprah ended up coming on stage about a half hour later than scheduled. I am guessing it was because she wanted to make sure a bulk of the people were actually in their seats because as I mentioned getting through the area where they scanned our tickets took a lot of time. Luckily she had a DJ named DJ Kiss playing some great music to entertain us while we waited.
Soon enough Oprah DID come on stage!
Eeek! I still can’t believe that I got to see Oprah! Who would have thought?
Oprah spent the next hour and a half talking about her life. Starting from her childhood and her family life to the progression of her career.
Did you know that on Oprah’s first day of Kindergarten she wrote a letter to her teacher stating that she did not think that she belonged there because she knew how to write? That letter got her moved to First Grade that same day!
Oprah is one pretty amazing woman, let me tell you!
She also gave some insight into what we could expect for day two. She had selected “trailblazers” to help us find the way to live our best life. The trailblazers included Elizabeth Gilbert the author of Eat Pray Love, Iyanla Vanzant who stars on the OWN network and several others. It was a great line-up of inspirational people and I plan to tell about each and every one of them tomorrow when I blog about day two of the event.
Until then I leave you with this quote from Oprah:
“Every moment you have the choice to open up…to listen to the whispers and live the way your life is nudging you to live…to walk boldly on your own life’s path.”
