Although I do have a gym membership, a majority of my workouts are done at home. Mostly because I like the convenience of working out whenever I choose to and also because the privacy factor can’t be beat. Typically Chewie is my only audience and although he does get in the way, he make up for his antics with his cuteness.
Yes, I sometimes even get out a mat just for him so that he will give me some space to myself. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t.
Being that I do most of my workouts at home, I have assembled a small collection of items that are my go-to home gym essentials.
It’s no secret that I take to the treadmill to get my runs in when I deem the weather not appropriate for running outside or when my family responsibilities need to take precedence over my running plans. We have a lower end treadmill that gets that job done and keeps me on track with my training plan.
I actually have three exercise mats. One standard mat that I got in my PopSugar Must Have Box that you see pictured above, one thick mat and one mat for Chewie. Technically the third mat wasn’t always for Chewie but I don’t care for it much anymore so he has adopted it.
For me, having an exercise mat is key for certain cross training exercises that I do on the floor. It is much more comfortable and thus I am able to workout longer!
Workout DVDs / Programs
I love a good workout program and I love trying out new programs. Hence, I have many to choose from including Fé Fit, Insanity, Les Mills Combat, The Fat Burn Revolution, The Lorna Jane Fit Challenge and more.
Recently I have started reading up on Kayla Itsines Bikini Body Workout. Sure I don’t like the name of the workout program (Everyone already has a bikini body right? Just put on a bikini and voila! Instant bikini body.) but once I got past the title it looks like a pretty good program and her client photos on Instagram are amazing! Stay tuned, I just may try it.
Free weights are a must for my cross training days! I have three sets. The pink pair is B’s since he wanted a pair of his own and the other two are mine. I use the free weights in conjunction with some of the exercise programs listed above.
I use the Naturalico jump rope to get in extra cardio and also for interval training workouts. What I like best about the Naturalico jump rope is that it is adjustable (a short girl’s requirement) and it is light-weight. It also appears to be made well so I am confident that it will last me for a long time and it even comes with a carrying case so I can take it with me on my travels.
Pull Up Bar
One of my goals is to master the pull up. I can do chin ups and I am THIS close to doing an unassisted pull up. THIS CLOSE. I’ll get there eventually!
I have the Iron Gym pull up bar which I love. Technically it is my second Iron Gym pull up bar as I lost my first one when I got divorced. Chris was nice enough to gift me my current one which I leave up in the doorway to remind myself to give it a go every time I walk by it. I would love some tips on conquering the pull up if you have any!
