On Sunday Chris and I will both be running the Cork Town 5k Race! This is a race that I have been wanting to do for a few years now but for one reason or another I wasn’t able to do it. Mostly those reasons were other races that were in conflict with Cork Town but this is the year I will finally be running it!
Here’s a bit of history about Cork Town for those that do not know. The race started in 1989 and from then until now it has slowly grown into one of the largest 5k races in Michigan with over 8,000 participants! The race follows the parade route of the Detroit St. Patrick’s Parade which starts a couple of hours after the 5k starts. The parade itself is on its 57th year this year! The race also raises money for the Saint Patrick’s Senior Center.
As you may guess, costumes are a big deal at this race and there is even a costume contest. I won’t be entering the contest but I did pick up a few items for Chris and I to wear during the race. Stay tuned for pictures of us wearing these!
Last weekend I picked up our race packets as they had packet pick up in several locations throughout Metro Detroit. I picked ours up at the New Balance store in Utica. Packet pick up was easy and fast. I did however, stop long enough to take a pic of this sign because I thought it was awesome.
As always I will do a full recap of the race next week!
On another note, for my fellow Southeast Michigan Runners did you see that Running Fit is hosting a FREE trail run on April 11th? They are calling it their Kegs and Eggs Trail Run. It will be at Maybury State Park and it includes beer and an EGGcelent breakfast. I am not a beer drinker but I do like free food and running trails! The only requirement for signing up is that you have to be signed up for one of their trail races, which I am actually signed up for 3 of them. Prior to the trail run they will also be hosting a Trail Running 101 Clinic. I of course am signed up for the trail run and I may attend the clinic as well as I am sure I still have lots to learn about trail running. If you are interested in attending click HERE to sign up.
Anyone else running a St. Patrick’s themed race this weekend?
Or doing anything else St. Patrick’s related?
