Dear Dolce and Gabbana –
I feel compelled to respond to your ignorant and hateful comments about children born through IVF (in vitro fertilization) both because of the insensitive remarks that you made and because you are now back peddling and excusing your hate speech by flashing your right to free speech card.
And while I could artfully craft a post about how wrong you are on the subject of IVF and implore you to realize that children are children no matter what path they took to get into this world….instead, I give you this.
A very real picture of myself and my son.
Can you tell by this picture that he was born through IVF? Can you tell by this picture that my heart broke into a million pieces during the two years it took for me to finally get pregnant with him or that while I carried him inside of me I was scared to death that I would lose him? Can you tell by this picture that I was once afraid that I would never become a Mom but that the miracle of IVF finally made it a reality for me?
Thanks to IVF my heart lives outside of my body as my son every single day.
And he is very real, very loved and very wanted.
And while I will always stand up for the right to freedom of speech, I will never stay sitting when hate speech is dished out in a little box with a shiny ribbon labeled free speech attached to it. We need more love and inclusivity in this world and less of your out of touch and harmful rhetoric.
