I love starting out the month with a Stitch Fix shipment! And is it just me or do you also find it hard to believe that I am on month 10?! Crazy how fast time flies. I love thinking about all of the fabulous items that Stitch Fix has added to my closet over the past 10 months. Makes me so glad I finally took the plunge and signed up after considering it for several months prior.
In case you are not familiar with Stitch Fix, let me bring you up to speed. Stitch Fix is a monthly subscription service (although you don’t have to get one every month, you pick how often) that sends you clothes and accessories based on a style profile that you fill out. You can keep what you like and send back what you don’t. There is a $20 styling fee but if you keep any of the items, the $20 fee is deducted from the total purchase price of the item(s) you keep. If you keep all 5 of the items from your fix you receive a 25% discount on EVERYTHING. Basically it is like playing dress up as an adult…..and it is both fun and addicting! Every month you can also leave a note for your stylist. So if you have an event that you need some clothes for or if you just have an idea of what kind of pieces you want to add to your wardrobe you can pass that information along!
This time around I told my stylist Diana, that I was still looking to build up my Spring / Summer wardrobe and that I was interested in a denim jacket and a petite sized maxi. Ready to see what Diana sent me? Let’s take a look!
Item #1: Liverpool Sally Cuffed Short
When I first pulled these shorts out of the box I thought that they looked huge although they were tagged with the size that I would normally buy. They also looked a bit like a bad pair of “Mom” shorts. No offense to those that like the shorts or to Moms as I am a Mom but you guys know what I am talking about right??
Once I tried them on my opinion did not change. They were much too big on me and I felt very Mommish and not in a good way. I am sure someone else can pull them off a lot better than I can but they are just not for me.
Item #2: 41Hawthorn Iris Striped A-Line Skirt
This has been a very popular skirt amongst Stitch Fixers as I have seen it in a lot of reveals either in this color or a pink color. From the pictures that I have seen I didn’t think I would be interested in the skirt because the material appeared to be a thin cotton making it a purely casual piece but the fabric is actually much thicker and durable so I was pleasantly surprised!
I love the skirt on me. The fit is good, the colors are perfect and the icing on the cake is that the skirt has POCKETS! Yes, I just yelled that because pockets are such a rare find in skirts and dresses and they are a cause for celebration! Another great part of the skirt is that I can wear it as casual wear or dress it up with a blazer and wear it to work. This skirt is definitely a winner!
Item #3: Liverpool Kolten Denim Jacket
I asked Diana for a denim jacket and she sent me one! I am so grateful that she always reads my notes and pays attention to my Pinterest board. I really couldn’t ask for a better stylist, she spoils me. But back to the jacket.
The jacket is super soft and has some stretch to it. And although I do like it on me, I don’t see myself reaching for it often enough to justify the $98 price tag. So despite Diana’s best intentions this jacket will be going back.
Item #4: Papermoon Rosen Sheer Detail Blouse
I immediately fell in love with this top as soon as I saw it. I love the colors and the detailing and started planning ways I could wear it both at work and in my non-work life.
Sadly the top did not fit me. It was tad too snug which is odd since it is the same size as all the other tops I have received from Stitch Fix. This brand or shirt must just run small. In my June fix I plan to ask Diana for this shirt in a size larger or a shirt similar to it. I realize that I could contact customer service to see if I could do a trade but I have never had any luck with that and it’s not like I am keeping all 5 items where I need to get the shirt so I can get the discount. I’ll just cross my fingers that I can get it in a bigger size next month.
Item #5: Skies are Blue Ross Halter Dress
The color of this dress immediately caught my eye but the shape of it made me a bit cautious as flowy clothes don’t typically flatter my shape very well.
And as I expected, once I tried it on, the color was great but the dress was too shapeless for my tastes and body shape.
Although I only kept one item this month, I am still pleased with my fix. I definitely would have kept the Papermoon top if it had fit me and the denim jacket and halter dress were almost something I would have been interested in. Not to mention, Stitch Fix just isn’t about getting 5 pieces that I love every month, it is about the experience of having someone else style me and trying items that I wouldn’t normally pick out for myself. As I mentioned at the start of my post, Stitch Fix has been a great way to build my wardrobe and I would definitely recommend it if you haven’t already tried it!
