It’s one of my favorite times of the month! Golden Tote reveal time!
Not familiar with Golden Tote? Golden Tote is similar to Stitch Fix but a little different. Golden Tote is a fashion service but you do not automatically receive a Tote each month. (And yes the items actually do arrive in a Tote!) Instead, Totes go on sale the first Monday of the month (the day has been different lately) on the Golden Tote website. You can choose between either a small Tote for $49 which contains 2-3 items (you pick 1 of the items yourself) or a large Tote for $149 which contains 5-6 items (you pick 2 of the items yourself).
Like Stitch Fix you fill out your style profile on Golden Tote and that style profile will help your stylist select the surprise items that they send in your Tote! Once you receive your Tote you can either keep everything or send everything back. There is no picking and choosing!
Golden Tote also has a boutique so you can purchase items separately as well and there is discounted pricing for adding items on to your Tote order. Oh one more thing! The clothing available for the Totes typically changes every month. And since there is a limited supply, getting a Tote with your preferred item(s) feels pretty similar to signing up for a Disney race. At least in my opinion!
This month I pulled an oioi because it was my birthday month. At least that was my excuse that I keep telling myself. And for those that don’t speak Goldie oioi means oops I overdid it! Ready to find out if my oioi was worth it?
Item #1: Puella High-Low Trapeze Dress
This was one of my chosen items and I knew when I selected it that it would be a bit of a risk because 1) It looked short 2) I prefer form-fitting clothes and 3) I typically don’t like high-necked clothes.
Once I saw it in person I was a bit disappointed in the color. When I picked the red version I thought it was a true red but it is more of an organgey red. And as suspected it is short. But not so short that I feel uncomfortable in it.
Overall I am on the fence about how I feel about it. I may sell or trade it in the Golden Tote group on Facebook or I may keep it and see if it grows on me. What do you guys think of it?
Item #2: Desert Beauty Dress
This was my second chosen and also a bit of a rick because it also is not form-fitting. But I just couldn’t help myself.
Luckily I don’t have any regrets about this dress at all! Despite Chris saying that he thinks the patterns looks like hotel carpet, I love this dress. It is a keeper!
Item #3: Le Lis Striped Pleated Skirt
Remember that dress that I got in my last Stitch Fix that I didn’t keep? That dress and this skirt are made by the same company which further cements my belief that the SF dress wasn’t worth the amount they wanted for it.
The fabric of the skirt is textured just like the dress. And although I like the fabric and the overall look of the skirt, I just think it is too much skirt for me so I will probably be posting this in the Golden Tote FB page for someone else to enjoy.
Item #4: Skies Are Blue Floral Lace Detail Kimono
Skies are Blue is another brand that Stitch Fix also carries and it is one that I tend to like a lot. This Kimono is different from everything else that I have in my closet and I think I like it! I plan to keep it as long as it use it often enough to justify it taking up my precious closet space.
Item #5: Hourglass Lilly Racerback Maxi – Mint
I like the colors in the maxi and I was excited to see that it wouldn’t need any hemming. But overall this dress is just not me, so I will be listing it in the Golden Tote FB group as well.
Item #6: Orange Creek Peplum Tank
This tank hasn’t been getting much love in the Golden Tote FB group but I really like it! I think it is cute and flattering and I will get a lot of use out of it.
Item #7: Sweet Summer Dress
I added this dress onto my tote because I couldn’t decide between my other two chosens and this dress.
I like the fit of the dress and the detailing on the back but unfortunately I don’t think the color is very flattering on me. Perhaps if I had a tan I would feel differently. Sadly I will be posting this in the FB group too.
Item #8: Classic Floppy Hat
I added this hat to my tote as well and I am so glad I did! I love it! Although Chris says I like to buy hats and not wear them….. I plan to prove him wrong by wearing it all the time because it really does go with everything!
Item #9: Intricate Waist Belt
I do love a cute belt and this one is certainly as cute in person as I was hoping!
So my first oioi month was bit of a mixed bag. I am okay with it because the Golden Tote FB page is so active I am confident that I can sell or trade the items that didn’t work for me. I’ve actually scored some great pieces off of that group myself that I will have to blog about later.
