You know it has been a good weekend when you can say that you traveled through time and got to hang out with some superheroes. Not all on one day, of course. And technically the two events were not related to each other except for that fact that I was a part of both of them.
On Saturday Chris, myself and his boys went to the Renaissance Festival in Holly (B was with hid Dad). And believe it or not, I had never been before but I had high hopes for the festival as it is a very popular summer / fall past time here in Michigan.
Unfortunately, I have to admit that the festival did not live up to my expectations. I am not sure what I was expecting but what I saw on Saturday wasn’t it. I felt like we spent money just to spend more money. The cost of admission included free performances and while there were lots of them to choose from, I felt like the performers spent a lot of time pandering for tips. Outside of watching the performances our other options of things to do were to shop at the stores or buy food. It was also very crowded at the festival and it only got worse as the day went along.
I realize my opinion about the Renaissance Festival may be an unpopular one so I will give you another perspective. Chris and his boys LOVE the festival and they go every year. It just wasn’t for me.
On Sunday I took B to see Marvel Universe Live at The Palace. I knew without a doubt that the show would be a hit for B because he loves all superheros (and most especially Spider-man) but I figured it would be just okay for me.
I was wrong! I was just as entertained as B was! Okay, maybe not quite to his level because he really was in awe of the whole show but I had a great time too. The story line was captivating; the special effects were amazing; the characters were great; the stage was ever-changing and always impressive; and the stunts were a lot of fun!
To give you an idea of how excited B was about the show, everyone he encountered commented about how enthusiastic he was to be there. I am telling you he was in heaven.
At one point in the show we had this conversation:
B: “Mom, they are all just wearing costumes right?”
Me: “Yes, they are in costumes.”
B: “But I want them to be real.”
Me: “Well, they are real if you believe that they are real.”
B: “They are real then.”
Ah, to be seven again.
Marvel Universe Live more than made up for me being underwhelmed about the Renaissance Festival. And all in all it was a great weekend!
How was your weekend?
