One of my favorite ways to unwind and relax is to read. It ranks second on my list of me-time activities, with running placing first of course. Since I like to share the things I love with you, I thought I would start sharing the books I read each month.
I read three books in January.
Gretchen Rubin is the author of the book The Happiness Project, one of my favorite reads back in 2012. I had even came up with my own happiness commandments.
I read Better Than Before towards the beginning of January when most of us are thinking of resolutions and goals for the new year, so for me, this book was read at just the right time. And since February is the time that most people give up on their resolutions, this could be the perfect time for you to read it!
Better Than Before takes a look at habits. The hows and the whys of the habits we have and how we can change them. It is filled with research and personal stories. I liked that Gretchen approached habits from a personal standpoint. She dissected different personalities and how each personality approaches habits. It was very insightful and helped me understand myself and my habits more. Click here to purchase Better Than Before on Amazon via my affiliate link.
After reading such a research focused book I was ready for something a little bit different. The Mothers was just what I needed. And while the topics covered in the book are certainly not light since the book deals with some pretty tough tissues like relationships, abortion and death; it was so well written and the storyline was so enrapturing I couldn’t put it down.
The Mothers is a New York Times bestseller and has won many awards including NPR Best Book of 2016. Click here to purchase The Mothers, through my Amazon affiliate link.
The Life She Wants was another quick and entertaining read for me. It is partly a mystery book and partly a romance novel. If you want a feel good book with a happy ending, this one is for you!
