The GMRENCEN partnered with me for this experience. All opinions expressed in this piece are my own.
If you followed me on my social media channels last weekend, you saw me rocking out to 38 Special at the Chevrolet Rockin’ on the Riverfront Concert Series. Chris and I had a great time!
The Chevrolet Rockin’ on the Riverfront Concert Series is an annual FREE concert series that takes place on the GM Plaza directly behind the GMRENCEN. What better way to spend your Friday night than by hanging out in Detroit listening to some classic rock and roll?!
This Friday (the 18th) is the last concert of the series. Performing will be Everclear starting at 7:30pm. While the concert is free, viewing space is on a first-come first-served basis. Feel free to bring your own lawn chair or blanket so you can enjoy the concert comfortably.
Parking is available for $5 per vehicle at the GM surface lot at the intersection of St. Antoine and Atwater, adjacent to the GMRENCEN. Only credit cards are accepted. In addition, boaters can anchor near the riverfront to enjoy the concert as well from the water.
As you can imagine this concert series is very popular, so I recommend that you do what we did. Get down there early and make a day of it. The GM Wintergarden at the GMRENCEN is the perfect place to catch dinner before the show. Options include Adiamo, Panera Bread, Joe Muer Seafood and others. After dinner you can visit the GM Company Store to pick up your very own Rockin’ on the Riverfront exclusive t-shirt and many other cool items.
After doing some shopping I would recommend a walk along the RiverWalk. It offers great views of Canada and the Ambassador Bridge as well as art, greenspace and much more. Plus it is a great opportunity to burn off some calories before the concert starts. It is also one of my favorite areas in Detroit!
