Soldier Story Saturday: Michigan’s Fallen Heroes

Last week while reading the Detroit Free Press, I came across an article that I will never forget. It was called Michigan’s Fallen Heroes: Remembering those who fought and died in Iraq and Afghanistan. It wasn’t the quality of the writing that I found so moving, it was the pictures. Pictures of soldiers who paid the ultimate price. I was captivated by each picture and I made sure to read the small amount of information that was provided about each and every soldier. I felt it was the least I could do for those who lost their lives while serving our country.

As soon as I saw the article I knew that I wanted to share it here.

Please click here to view the online version of the article. Once on the article, you will be able to click on a link to see the full database of the fallen heroes or you can click on a link to view those who had ties to Michigan.

If you are interested in contributing a story to the Soldier Story Saturday series, please contact me by email at bamoats@gmail.com If this story or any of the other stories featured in the series have moved you enough to donate to my Wounded Warrior Project fundraiser, please click here to do so. Thank you.

Introducing Soldier Story Saturday

If you read my blog on a consistent basis that you are probably used to seeing this image every Saturday for my Saturday Sound Off series.

I did an extra big image this time because it is going to be a long time before I will be using it again. I have greatly enjoyed the Saturday Sound Off series because it gave me an opportunity to vent about various topics that I may not have otherwise blogged about. It will always hold a special place in my heart because it was the first series I ever created and it also paved the way for me to have my first guest blogger. With that being said, the Saturday Sound Off series is going on hiatus. Don’t be sad, it is for a very good reason and a very good cause.

As you know, I am racing in the Tough Mudder in April 2012 in conjunction with raising money for the Wounded Warrior Project. I am very proud to be part of such a tough endurance event and even prouder to be raising money for such a worthy cause. In an effort to raise awareness about my fundraiser while telling the stories of soldiers which too often go untold, I have created a new series for my blog called, Soldier Story Saturday.

This is the new image that you will be seeing every Saturday!

I am really excited about this new series and I am already working on the first post, which will debut on Saturday, November 12th. In order for the series to be a success I will need your help. Here is what you can do!

1. Read the Soldier Story Saturday every week! These are going to be stories about real soldiers and their families. Let’s show them the support they deserve by reading their stories, commenting on their stories, thanking them for their service and sharing their stories with our family and friends. We can all do this, right? Easy peasy!

2. Help me find soldiers to showcase on the Soldier Story Saturday. I know we have lots of great service men and women who deserve to have their stories told. I just need to find them! If you are a soldier and you would like to share your story on my blog you can either write the story yourself or you can tell me the story and I will write it for you. Or if you know a soldier you would like to write about or you would like me to write about, that is an option as well. In terms of the type of story I am looking for, the sky is the limit. You could write a summary about a soldier’s career or even just a particular poignant time in the soldier’s life. You can write about what it is like to be a family member or a friend of a soldier. Like I said, the direction of the story is up to you. I will be posting the Soldier Story Saturday starting on Saturday, November 12th and it will run through April 2012. If you are interested in contributing a story to the Soldier Story Saturday please contact me by email at bamoats@gmail.com so I can schedule you for a particular Saturday. Make sure you email me asap as I believe the Saturdays will start booking up pretty quickly!

Thank you in advance for your support of the Soldier Story Saturday series! I can hardly wait until it debuts on the 12th! Stay tuned!!!
